About Us

John J. Cairns is the continuation high school in Lindsay Unified School District. It offers a variety of opportunities for learners to earn their high school diploma. We are a WASC accredited school and our courses are A-G approved. We are also a recipient within the California PBIS Coalition's System of Recognition, reflecting excellence in the measurement of fidelity as well as our efforts in implementing the core features of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. Our entire staff is dedicated to helping learners earn their high school diploma and to prepare them to take the next big step that life has for them. We believe all learners can learn at their own pace and in their own way and that education is a cooperative effort between the home, the school, and the community.

The school is named after one of Lindsay's early settlers. John J. Cairns, a Scotsman by birth, came to the Lindsay area in 1881. His first venture was as a sheep rancher, followed by cattle, then as a grower of 22,000 acres of grain in Tulare and northern Kern counties. He was also credited with the development of water wells which encouraged the further development of citrus acreage. He was very devoted to education and seeing young students learn. The Cairns homestead property and citrus orchard, bordered by century-old olive trees, still exists at Cairns Corner west of Lindsay.
